The Scottish Events 2012 add your photos

This is to document the two events from last year that I believe were lost on the forum. Really to allow all members to see what was on offer and what could be organised this year. I must give credit to Sandy (Old Mac Rocco) and others who put a lot of effort into the Knockhill meet. Through this fo...

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change, STILL

Hello Sandy and Gayle, appreciate the offer of your respective company. Not got near to doing this yet but will be in touch imminently about doing something the turn of the month. I'm in the midst of doing seasonal farm stuff (bloody fencing :ire: ) but will be mostly done by the end of the month. C...

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change, STILL

My belief now having had two opinions from a garage I trust is that this is simply just the noise that this belt makes with the combination of sprockets. Once hot it is creating a resonance that makes this ticking noise. I also think with the belt sitting on the outer edge of the sprockets (see top ...

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change, STILL

Thanks Nate, I have tried the long screw driver technique (thankfully I have short hair) and I was hearing the noise when holding at the non-spinning part adjuster pulley. I had changed it with no solution to the noise and the older Pulley still looked really fresh. What i have noticed is the belt s...

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change, STILL

I have loosened the belt as much as I dare a number of times and also since I tried another adjuster Pulley, I'll maybe try loosening further than before and carefully see what happens. The whining noises I had previously were resolved this way. This noise is more a metal ticking noise and I do unde...

Re: Noisy timing belt even after change, STILL

So it's a few months on and I still have this timing belt noise. Yes the whining went with the correct adjustment of the pulley up the way weeks ago but I still get this ticking noise that I would describe as sounding like an old Edinburgh Taxi. This only occurs when the car is fully up to temp. I k...

Re: 92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

Thanks Ben for the email although I was none the wiser. I think one is a very early design and the newer one is the same as my car so much later or I'm not interpreting the diagram? I did however figure out what I need.. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee319/maccoll_photos/5mhm2s_zps77ee0e1f-1.jp...

Re: Mk2 Door alignment damage + sagging

I'm confused? It's my understanding that that any spacing like the washer I have put in the top hinge to stop the sag will move the door forward increasing the gap at the striker end. It's like both hinges need to move back? Job for a pro with a torch? Or are you saying that having spacers on both h...

Re: 92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

Might want to email me, I can't read the above (old age lol) or if you could give me the part numbers for a and b in my last picture, also the springs as I think the earlier one is smaller? I was trying to get ETKA myself and the download was a disaster waited hours, loads of horrendous stupid add-o...

Re: 92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

This is the sort of configuration that I think I need but don't think I have parts a and b, might have them in a box somewhere from the Polo years but I recall that washer/clamping disc being damaged..

Re: 92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

Hello Sandy, Cheers Yes I've seen the Haynes but this 89 column and my 92 car seem to have an adaptor sleeve that replaces that sleeve. I can maybe use the dimensions as reference. In the updates section P322 you can see a short adaptor to large spline and a clamping disc. The columns I have seem to...

Re: 92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

Just figured that there should maybe be a clamping disc that would hold the spring in place against the ignition housing/bearing. It is like a bevelled washer that bites into the shaft. The adaptor sleeve removed was doing this job so would I need one of these? where? If the adaptor sleeve can be cu...

Mk2 Door alignment damage + sagging

A previous owner has clearly allowed the drivers door to open beyond it's limit, maybe caught in the wind or worse? When I got the car it had the typical door sag so i shimmed the top hinge with a washer. Trouble is you can see the poor shut lines.. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee319/maccoll_p...

92 Mk2 Steering going small spline

I have a spare steering column from my previous 89 Scirocco that has the ignition barrel to match the rest of the locks previously changed over all round. I also want to change to small spline so have removed the adaptor sleeve and spring (1st picture already loose spring is usually compressed).. ht...
