Re: Show us your mk1

Got my Mk 1 Storm out to Ingleton village show on Saturday ( near Darlington, County Durham- not the Yorkshire Dales Ingleton ! ). There were only three VW's- a nice sixties Beetle there but I parked next to a governor split screen camper which got all the attention and rightly so - he turned down t...

Vw graveyard in Tallybont on Usk

Missed the meet due to family holiday already booked in Welsh Wales. On a Brecon canal walk at Tallybont just out of Brecon I came across a VW graveyard. Two Mk 1 GTi Golfs, a Mk 1 Scirocco GLS, two Mk 2's and assorted others inc. 205's and a Porsche. See attached pics. There were definitely spares t...

Re: Ballast resistor

Car starts and fires up then cuts out as key released fuel and spark present, runs fine if +ve of coil shorted to battery +ve- according to Haynes this means ballast resistor faulty- ballast resistors provide a huge mass of conflicting blogs on the net.

Ballast resistor

having starting problems -tried a new coil ( Bosch identical swap) but my Haynes manual suggests a faulty ballast resistor- has anyone had this and if so how do I replace it- the wiring diagram has a non colour coded wire from the positive of the coil into the ignition but not clear.

Re: Introduce yourself

From Darlowolf- a cunning name for a Wolves fan ( born there ) and now living in Darlington. My 79 Storm is on the road-just got the front brakes sorted but need a couple of niggles fixing before venturing any great distance, now semi retired so expenditure on the car needs to be steady. I had a TS ...

Re: Webasto sunroof

Got one on my Mk1 79 Storm- the guy who did my respray couldn't safely remove it so upset the airflow during process. I don't take it out in heavy rain just in case it leaks. It has a Design Council award sticker on the mechanism and opens/shuts fine but I would swap it now for a glass sunroof . The...

Re: Show us your mk1

Finally got it finished -well, almost. First run out last week front brakes binding and can't get fifth gear. Just don't feel like getting underneath to sort them at the moment so may take the lazy way out and shove it in garage. Any suggestions for brakes, gear change welcome, I've got a new linkag...
