Re: Fuel economy

I always got around 400 miles to a tank on my weber carb'd 1.6GT, but that might be cos it was a daily and couldn't rag it on the way to work in traffic!

Radio fitted as standard?

Could anyone with the original manual etc tell me if the Mk2 1.6GT (1988) came with a radio as standard, or whether it was an option? I'm prepping my car for hillclimbing, and I need to know whether or not I can bin it!

Re: Things on the back of the radiator cowl

I might have some you can have that are in working order from an old cowling if you want, or do you only want shiny new ones?

Is this a 1.6 GT carb by any chance? If it is, mine is exactly the same - i think it's due to the front end being lighter than other 'roccos due to the lack of injection gubbins.

...or my engine mounts were shot, allowing more movement of the exhaust downpipe onto the ARB? :dunno: Either way, it's a bit snug without the kink in the downpipe!

Re: front antiroll bar

The GT doesn't have a kink in the downpipe to clear an ARB. I fitted front ARB to mine, and found that the exhaust would vibrate on the rollbar at certain revs which was very annoying, so i replaced the downpipe for one with the kink fro the 1.8/injection models which solved the problem. i think mos...

Looks great Alex!

I'm going down the revvy 1.6 route, so we'll have to compare notes when they're both finished :groove:

Re: Rocker Cover.....

Might be a silly question but have you tried putting two nuts on the studs and tightening them into one another, then undoing the bottom one? Usually works with a bit of perseverance :training: on even the tough ones. I used the technique to get the rocker studs out of my head, worked fine :good:

Don't need to drop it mate, just really fiddly! I did mine in a couple of hours in the car park at work, so you should be fine!
