Press demo mk1 storm

I have owned quite a few mk1 sciroccos over the last 20 odd years but at one point I owned the press test car and vw demo mk1 storm HVV503T I had this car in about 1991 till 1993 and it came with mountains of history and the original press pictures I sold the car and it's always been the biggest reg...

Re: Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

I checked the rear beam mounting points and they seem solid just a bit of surface rust so that's a relief! I've already been through vw heritage site and have a whole list of parts I want to replace, the rear beam I intend to get shot blasted and powder coated before fitting new bushes and lines, I ...

Re: Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

Thank you mk1gls and I take your advice on board, the only problem is if I drop the rear beam first then I've no way of getting it on the trailer to the restorer, bit of a catch 22, might let him do that, it's a shame because I would like to take as much of it as I can, how difficult is it to drop t...

Re: Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

Hi you are welcome to them when I replace them, in fact you can have them for free! It's just nice to see another enthusiast benefit from them, can't wait to get it done now, it goes to the restorer next week.

Re: Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

Hi thanks, yes it's not a complete basket case so I think it can be saved, I am going to take the wings off and re-under seal the inner wings, I'm also going to replace all brake and fuel lines, bushes, wishbones etc etc, the rear subframe mounts seem ok but will know more when I drop it out. I'm fo...

Restoring mk1 storm after 27 years owned

Before I begin with the restoration I want to share the history and story of this great car. First technically this is not my car, it's my mothers who at 83 and suffering from dementia can no longer drive or remember this car. So I have prematurely inherited it. My mother bought the car in July 1987...

Re: Mk1 storm out of storage at last!

Thanks, yea fitting front wheel arch liners is a great idea and one I will defiantly do, like you said its a major rust trap. Fortunately the car was always garaged and the wings are perfect but I want to keep them that way, just need to find a really good body shop who will do a proper job of fitti...

Re: Mk1 storm out of storage at last!

That's what I want to do, what you can't see is the sills! They both need replacing and the rear quarter valance is also rotten, the rear arches have a few bubbles but the wings, inner, wings, doors, scuttle tailgate, bonnet are all rust free, not even a bubble! It seems the underside has suffered t...
