Spray carb cleaner everywhere you can while a friend gently revs, helped sort out my Pierburg :)

As far as I can remember when I changed mine (GT2) to make it easier you'll need a 23mm long socket.

seal arrived the other day, good stuff. went to undo the 31 year old screws holding the lock mechanism in place and...crunch...rounded one of them off. God himself couldn't turn those b**tard things. i got one of them undone eventually, but the other one will need drilled out and replaced. not a ha...

I have no clue how old the battery is as I've only had the car a few months, I'll have to dig out the massive pile of receipts the previous owner gave me! As I said I had it checked at Halford's as it was free and nearby, and they seemed to think it was fine. Don't know how reliable/accurate this is...

Only a wild guess, but is your radio only wired to a permenant feed? Quite a few don't actually turn off when you turn them off. Think standby mode Bingo, you might be onto a winner here, this also crossed my mind last night. What's the easiest alternative, splicing from the switched live that goes...
