Trouble turning the key
My car has been in storage for a couple of years, and when coming to start it i had difficulty turning the key in the ignition. I've occasionally had this problem in the past. I would engage the steering lock and then turn the wheel to the limit of the lock which would allow the key to turn but it w...

Re: Click when stopping
I'll double check when i next drive it (probably not till next week now) but i'm 99% sure i have to be coming to a stop, not already stopped. If i let off and press again while not moving nothing happens, but in stop-start traffic it clunks every time i stop. I've not tried coming to a halt with the...

Re: Click when stopping
I think it's the front. Rear drums / shoes and wheel cylinders were replaced last year, and i'm pretty sure it was doing it before that. It's done it with different wheels on, and before i replaced my suspension. Cant notice if it's sided, but i can kind of feel it through the brake peddle. I do hav...

Click when stopping
Hi All Whenever i come to a stop using the brakes i get a cluck / clunk kind of a sound. It's only one, and right as i come to a standstil. Doesn't happen if i stop without using brakes (ie, slowing down going up a hill then putting the hand brake on). It's gone through the MOT fine so i don't think...

Re: Broken thermostat?
Bought a blue one last year - it seems to 'seal' a lot better when the engine is warm.
The car seems to be behaving its self now the weather has cooled a bit. I have been driving around with the heaters on, so hopefully if there was an air lock it's found it's way to the expansion tank now.

Re: Broken thermostat?
I've done as advised, i can see the pump is working, left it running for 5 with the cap off but the temp did make it up to just beyond half over the next ~15 mins. Hard to tell if the pipe pressure went up after the cap was replaced - didn't seem that much firmer to me after running for 20 mins, but...

Re: Broken thermostat?
Didn't get chance to do much investigation last night as i needed to go out, but i did check the coolant level before i set off, which was fine. The temp stayed between 2/3 and 1/5 all the time i was driving, which is normal with the G60 thermostat. I'm thinking there could have been an air lock tha...

Broken thermostat?
Hi All I replaced my coolant last week after a hose burst, took the car for a drive and all seemed fine, but i forgot to screw the cooland cap down and came back to the car yesterday to find the tank empty. Topped it back up, it took about 3l so there was still something in there, but after another ...

Re: Engine timing scirocco mk2
I used this video while trying to make sure my timing was about right. It's not completely in focus, but coupled with the Haynes it should be enough for you to find all the timing marks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV8sCkQeO1k&t=228s problem you have is if you turn the crank you will hit a v...

Re: GTX not starting
Fixed (hopefully!) For anyone else reading this in the same situation, the problem was with the metal ring position. The reason Haynes doesn't mention the position is that there's a pin to align this to the rotor shaft. I wasn't able to track down what happened to the original, but made another from...

Re: GTX not starting
Plusgas'd first thing this morning and gave it a good couple of hours, it's still not budging. There is some good news however, got the timing cover off, found the mark on the gear, the TDC marker in the gearbox and the one in the dizzy If i line up the gearbox one, the cam gear is out by a couple o...
