Re: Oil Temp, Voltage etc cluster

More gauges, more better!

When I was a teenager, I harvested 52mm gauges from the scrappy every time I went. Was planning to fill the centre console on my beetle with them

Re: Servo / Non Return Valve

Hit the scrapyard and find something vaguely similar and make it fit. Think I used one from a mk3 or mk4 golf last time

Re: Hot start dragging - battery?

My old mk2 was like this. New main earth cable from battery to engine cured it. Check for this by putting a single jump lead from battery -ve to the block and see if it improves

Re: Recommendations for brake line

I flare one end, route the pipe and cut to length, then cut the other end and flare it. Usually forgetting to put the nut on before I flare the 2nd end. I find that if you cut them to length before fitting them, they're never quite right.

Re: Alternator replacement

Rtx is a no from me. We had one put on the MG. Lasted all of about 200 miles

Delco Remy is a reputable brand, but I've never knowingly fitted one of their alternators

Re: Weber fuel return

On my last mk2 I ditched the fuel return altogether to get it running happily. On the current mk2 I haven't touched it. It is weird

Re: Wrtten off after small damage

400 seems a bit low for a total loss, even letting you retain the salvage. Bear in mind that now the car has been written off, if you are unlucky enough for it to be written off and it not be repairable, they will normally reduce the layout by up to half

Re: Cambelt replacement advice 1992 EX

I've ordered some circlip pliers to tighten the tensioner as that seems to be the recommended tool. I use a universal angle grinder tool such as https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173403200271 Some of them need the pins tickling down a little with a f...

You learn something new every day

The Amazon delivery guy started talking at me about cars, having spotted 2 sciroccos on the drive.

Apparently the scirocco was a joint venture between VW and Austin, proof of which can be found in the number of shared components with the maestro and montego.

There we are then

Re: Head gasket/EGR cooler/turbo or injectors HELP :,(

Oil level rising would suggest that it is getting diesel mixed in with it. I know GM diesels ate prone to this of switched off during a regen. If you attempt to repair this by chucking new parts at it based on internet suggestions, you're gonna end up skint and not fixing it. I'm not overly familiar...
